Health & Safety

Gibbs Wilson Contracting Inc. is committed to a strong health and safety program that protects its staff, its property and the public from incidents.

Workers at every level, including management, are responsible and accountable for Gibbs Wilson’s overall health and safety initiatives. Complete and active participation by everyone, everyday in every job is necessary for the health and safety excellence the company expects. Management supports the coordination and cooperation of all workers concerning health and safety on the job site and while traveling to and from the worksite in either a company-owned or private vehicle.

Management encourages all workers to participate in the health and safety program and is committed to cooperate with the JHSC or the Worker Safety Representative at all worksites. Management is committed to providing proper equipment, training policies, practices and procedures. Workers are responsible for following all procedures, working safely and, wherever possible, improving health and safety measures.

An injury and incident-free workplace is our goal. Through continuous health and safety efforts, we can accomplish this.

Gibbs Wilson is proud to be the recipient of the prestigious Distinguished Achievement in Safety Award for 471,434 hours Zero Injury Frequency from the Ontario General Contractors Association in 2011.

At Gibbs Wilson, we understand the importance of Infection Control while working in a Hospital setting. One of our current worksites at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital in St. John’s Nfld. was used as an example of the correct infection control procedure for other contracting companies in the region. Our supervisors have taken the CSA seminar on Fundamentals of Infection Control during Construction, Renovation or Maintenance of Health Care Facilities – CAN/CSA Z317.13-07 and our worksites meet or exceed this standard for infection control.

Our goals for 2012 are:

  • COR certification in Newfoundland and Labrador, Alberta and Ontario,
  • Zero injuries and incidents,
  • Ensure we “say what we do and do what we say”
